EEG&BCI Lab, BME, Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU)
Aim at facilitating patients with motor disabilities to restore motor functions and improve quality of life. 2009/05-present- Proposed a practical control strategy for wheelchair control in a virtual environment with motor imagery.
- Investigated cortical rhythm changes during subject sensorimotor training with cortical activity feedback.
- Studied corticomuscular coupling estimated by EEG-EMG coherence. Facilitated in development of a new device to provide real-time measurement of dynamic forces created by pinching fingers.
- Built strong collaboration with robotic team; proposed cooperative approach for human-robot system; discussed/facilitated in simulation of control incorporating obstacle auto-avoidance based on predictive scenes.
- Integrated the functional modules of data acquisition, signal processing/pattern recognition, and visual/auditory feedback. The system serves as an experimental framework and a training tool for patients in rehabilitation stage.
- Carried out experiments in 50+ healthy subjects/patients with muscle atrophy or stroke: acquired consent forms, gave instructions, identified subjects’ need, and efficiently trouble shoot when system malfunctions occurred.
- Designed in Matlab effective interfaces; implemented classification algorithms; translated the decoded movement intentions into control commands; evaluated system performance.
- Participated/played important role in grant application writing.
-
Survey Evaluation and Research Lab, Center for Public Policy, VCU Facilitate local government in educational policy making activities 2008/06-2008/08
- Designed questionnaires aiming at collecting household info and head counting school age children with/without being educated in Richmond central Virginia.
- Efficiently took census in 500+ houses/Apts in Richmond and suburban areas with a team.
- Categorized data sample; performed data entry and statistical analysis.
-
Biomedical Imaging and Instrumentation Lab, BME, VCU Participated in a variety of research projects as a research assistant 2007/08-2009/05
- Co-designed a portable accelerator device w/ application in falling-down warning for the elderly with wireless transmission; Programmed in LabVIEW.
- Designed electric circuit for portable EEG acquisition devices for Brain-Computer Interface project.
- Represented EEG power distribution by 3D head animation; captured/extracted distinguishable EEG features; developed an innovative strategy to implement a practical 2D cursor control. Optimized system outperformed traditional method by reducing training time and enhancing accuracy.
- Instructed undergraduate students in lab course of ECG circuit design.
-
Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) program, OTIS Elevator Co. Ltd., China Internship in Technique Department 2006/12-2007/06
- Worked in a team to test new elevator online system while finishing regular orders.
- Programmed with ERP software and Excel.
- Checked AutoCAD plots; Archived Contract parameters; Created packing lists; Put orders et.al.
- Rotated exchanging information among Departments of Technique, Contract, Cost, Production and Quality.
- State Key Laboratory of Precision Measuring Technology and Instruments, Tianjin University, China
Research Assistant 2006/07-2007/07- Participated in project “Bio-photonic Techniques in Early diagnosis of cervix cancer” proposed by Prof. Huijuan Zhao; programmed in LabVIEW to reduce signal noise in frequency domain.
